Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Wings:
- 2 pounds chicken wings (tip and drumette separated)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
For the Sauce (Optional):
- 1/4 cup hot sauce (for buffalo-style wings)
- 1/4 cup honey (for honey garlic wings)
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce (for BBQ wings)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional for added umami in honey garlic wings)
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Wings
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Wings: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. This step is crucial because it helps the wings get crispy in the oven.
- Season the Wings: In a large bowl, drizzle the wings with olive oil. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and thyme. Toss everything together until the wings are evenly coated with the seasonings.
Bake the Wings
- Arrange the Wings: Place the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure there’s some space between each wing for even cooking.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through. You’ll know they’re done when they’re golden brown and crispy on the outside, and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Crisp Up (Optional): For extra crispy wings, turn on the broiler for the last 2-3 minutes of baking. Just be sure to keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
Toss in Sauce
- Prepare the Sauce: While the wings are baking, prepare your sauce of choice. Simply combine the hot sauce, honey, or BBQ sauce in a small bowl. For a honey garlic twist, add soy sauce to the honey and hot sauce for extra depth of flavor.
- Toss the Wings: Once the wings are done, toss them in the sauce while they’re still hot. This will allow the sauce to coat the wings evenly.
- Garnish: Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, for an extra pop of color and flavor.
