Instructions
Prepare the Dough
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and garlic powder. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Shape the Breadsticks
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangular shape on a floured surface.
- Cut the Breadsticks: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into 12 even strips.
- Arrange on the Baking Sheet: Place the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
Prepare the Garlic Butter Topping
- Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave or on the stovetop. Stir in the minced garlic and dried oregano.
- Brush the Dough: Brush each breadstick generously with the garlic butter mixture, making sure to cover the entire surface.
- Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the breadsticks, followed by a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
Bake the Breadsticks
- Bake: Place the breadsticks in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Garnish: Remove the breadsticks from the oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
