Coal Fudge

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 50 min.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 oz) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Black food coloring (optional for darker color)

Instructions

Prepare the Fudge Mixture

  1. Melt the Chocolate: In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Stir constantly until the mixture is melted and smooth.
  2. Add Flavoring: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. If desired, add a few drops of black food coloring to achieve a coal-like appearance.
  3. Cool the Mixture: Allow the mixture to cool slightly to thicken for easier shaping.

Form the “Coal” Pieces

  1. Prepare a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Shape the Coal: Using a spoon or your hands, scoop small portions of fudge and form them into rough, irregular shapes to resemble lumps of coal.
  3. Chill: Place the fudge pieces on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for about 25 minutes, or until firm.
