Honey Mustard Pretzel Chicken

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 40 min.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup pretzel crumbs (you can crush regular pretzels or use store-bought pretzel crumbs)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup honey mustard sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for baking)

Instructions

Prep the Chicken

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Breading Station: Set up three shallow bowls:
    • In the first, add the flour and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
    • In the second, whisk the eggs.
    • In the third, add the pretzel crumbs.
  3. Coat the Chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry with a paper towel. Dredge each piece first in the seasoned flour, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with the pretzel crumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even layer.

Bake the Chicken

  1. Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange the Chicken: Place the coated chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they’re spaced out evenly.
  3. Bake: Drizzle a little olive oil over the top of the chicken breasts for extra crispiness, then bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).

Make the Honey Mustard Sauce

  1. Mix the Sauce: While the chicken is baking, mix together the honey mustard sauce (if using homemade, combine 1/2 cup mustard, 1/4 cup honey, and a pinch of salt).
  2. Set Aside: Keep the sauce on the side for dipping or drizzle it over the chicken once it’s done baking.

Serve

  1. Serve the Chicken: Once the chicken is golden and crispy, remove it from the oven. Serve immediately, drizzled with honey mustard sauce or with extra sauce on the side for dipping.
