  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 30 min.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Popcorn Balls:

  • 8 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (green, purple, orange, or your choice)

For Decorations:

  • Edible candy eyes
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Gummy worms or other candies
  • Chocolate chips
  • Whipped cream (for a fun twist)

Instructions

Prepare the Popcorn

  1. Pop the Popcorn: Use an air popper or stovetop method to pop the popcorn. Place it in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is bubbly and well combined.

Combine the Ingredients

  1. Add Marshmallows: Stir in the mini marshmallows until melted and smooth.
  2. Add Food Coloring: Add a few drops of food coloring to the melted mixture, stirring until you reach your desired color.
  3. Combine with Popcorn: Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Using a spatula or your hands (lightly greased), gently mix until the popcorn is evenly coated.

Form the Popcorn Balls

  1. Cool Slightly: Let the mixture cool for a few minutes until it’s safe to handle.
  2. Shape the Balls: Grease your hands and take small handfuls of the popcorn mixture to form balls about the size of a golf ball. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool completely.

Decorate the Monsters

  1. Add Eyes and Toppings: Once the popcorn balls are set, use candy eyes, gummy worms, sprinkles, or other candies to create your monster designs. Get creative with different faces!
  2. Optional Whipped Cream: For extra fun, top with a dollop of whipped cream to resemble monster “fur” or “hair.”
