Paris Hot Chocolate

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 10 min.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk (or dairy-free milk like almond or oat milk)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces high-quality dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (adjust based on chocolate sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Heat the Milk and Cream

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until it’s hot but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent the milk from scorching.
  2. Once it’s warm (steamy but not boiling), remove the pan from the heat.

Step 2: Melt the Chocolate

  1. Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces. Add the chocolate pieces to the warm milk and cream mixture. Stir constantly until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  2. Taste the mixture and add sugar if desired, adjusting to your sweetness preference.

Step 3: Add the Vanilla

  1. Stir in the vanilla extract, mixing until it’s fully incorporated into the hot chocolate.

Step 4: Serve and Garnish

  1. Pour the hot chocolate into two mugs.
  2. Top with a dollop of whipped cream if you like, and sprinkle with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder for a decorative touch.
