Ingredients
Scale
- 12–15 slices of salami (or more, depending on how many roses you want to make)
- 1 small bowl of cream cheese (optional, for extra texture)
- 1 toothpick or skewer (to hold the rose together)
- Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish, such as rosemary or parsley)
- A platter to serve the roses on
Instructions
Create the Rose Shape
- Prepare Your Salami: Lay the salami slices out flat on a cutting board. If the slices are large, feel free to cut them in half to make them more manageable. You want them to be flexible, so fresh slices work best.
- Make the First Petal: Take one slice of salami and place it at the center of your plate or work surface. This will be the “base” of your rose. If you’re using cream cheese, place a small dollop in the center of this first slice.
- Add the Next Petal: Now, take another slice of salami and fold it slightly, placing one end on top of the base slice. Curl the ends around to create the look of a petal.
- Continue Curling: Keep adding slices of salami, one at a time, folding them into a petal shape and layering them around the central slice. The goal is to make the salami curl in a circular pattern, building up the rose from the center outward.
- Secure the Rose: Once your rose is as big as you’d like it, use a toothpick or skewer to secure the base of the rose so it doesn’t fall apart. If you’re not using cream cheese, this is even more important!
- Garnish (Optional): If desired, garnish the salami rose with fresh herbs or a sprig of rosemary. It adds a beautiful touch and enhances the savory flavors of the salami.
Arrange and Serve
- Plate the Roses: Place your completed salami roses on a platter, arranging them in a spiral or as a bouquet. The way you arrange them can also add to the visual appeal—think of it as creating a floral arrangement, but edible!
- Serve with Accompaniments: Pair your Salami Roses with crackers, a selection of cheeses, olives, or even fruit like grapes for a balanced snack board. You can also serve them alongside wine, making this snack perfect for a cocktail hour.
