Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup colorful sprinkles (for the top of the loaf)

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Pan

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well blended.

Mix the Wet Ingredients

  1. Blend Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the buttermilk and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  1. Add Butter: Add the softened butter to the wet ingredients and mix until it’s fully incorporated.
  2. Fold Together: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—this helps the bread stay light and fluffy.

Add Sprinkles

  1. Incorporate the Sprinkles: Gently fold in about 2 tablespoons of sprinkles into the batter. This will give the bread a fun pop of color when sliced.

Bake the Bread

  1. Transfer to Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  2. Sprinkle More on Top: Sprinkle a generous amount of sprinkles over the top of the bread for that colorful, festive finish.
  3. Bake: Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.

Cool and Serve

  1. Let Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Slice and Enjoy: Once the bread has cooled slightly, slice it up and serve it with your favorite spread.
