7-Layer Taco Dip

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup refried beans (optional for extra texture)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 package cream cheese (8 oz), softened
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup diced green onions
  • 12 cups salsa (store-bought or homemade)
  • Tortilla chips or fresh veggies for dipping

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef: Start by browning the ground beef (or turkey) in a skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess fat, then add the taco seasoning and a bit of water (as per the seasoning packet instructions). Simmer for about 5 minutes until the meat is well-seasoned and heated through. Let it cool slightly.
  • Prepare the Creamy Layers: In a separate bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
  • Assemble the Layers:
    • In a large dish (a 9×9-inch baking dish or a glass pie dish works well), start by spreading the refried beans evenly across the bottom.
    • Next, spread the creamy sour cream and cream cheese mixture on top of the beans.
    • Add the seasoned ground beef on top of the cream layer, followed by a generous layer of shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Add the Fresh Ingredients: Layer on the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, black olives, and green onions. These fresh, crunchy elements add a lot of flavor and texture to the dip.
  • Top with Salsa: Spoon salsa over the top to finish off the dip. You can use your favorite store-bought salsa or make a quick homemade one with tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice, and jalapeños.
  • Chill (Optional): If you have time, cover the dip with plastic wrap and let it chill in the fridge for about 15-30 minutes before serving. This step isn’t necessary but can help the flavors meld together.
  • Serve: Serve your 7-Layer Taco Dip with tortilla chips, crunchy veggies like cucumber and bell peppers, or pita chips for dipping. Enjoy!
