Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy like almond, oat, or coconut milk)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar or sweetener of choice (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 2 bags black tea (or your favorite strong tea, like chai for a spiced twist)
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
- Crushed peppermint candies or chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Brew the Tea
- Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil. Pour it over the tea bags in a heatproof mug or bowl.
- Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like it. Remove the tea bags once it’s brewed to your desired strength.
2. Make the Chocolate Peppermint Mixture
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. Stir constantly to avoid burning.
- Once the milk is warm, whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar (if using), and peppermint extract. Stir until the cocoa powder dissolves and the mixture is smooth and heated through. Be sure not to let it come to a boil.
3. Combine and Serve
- Pour the brewed tea into your mug.
- Gently pour the chocolate peppermint mixture into the tea and stir to combine. You can adjust the proportions to taste if you prefer more tea or more chocolate.
- Top with whipped cream, crushed peppermint candies, or chocolate shavings for extra holiday cheer.
4. Optional: Add Extra Flavor
For an even more indulgent treat, you can drizzle some chocolate syrup or a little extra peppermint extract over the whipped cream topping. The little details make all the difference!
