Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 40 min.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into ¼-inch thick fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for extra crispiness)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

1. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into ¼-inch thick fries. Try to keep them uniform in size for even cooking.
  3. Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to an hour) to remove excess starch. This helps them crisp up better!

2. Season the Fries

  1. Drain the fries and pat them completely dry with a kitchen towel.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the fries with cornstarch until lightly coated.
  3. Drizzle with olive oil and add salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss until evenly coated.

3. Bake Until Crispy

  1. Arrange the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they’re not overlapping to allow even crisping.
  2. Bake for 15 minutes, then flip the fries using a spatula.
  3. Bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the fries are crispy and golden brown.

4. Serve and Enjoy

  1. Remove from the oven and let the fries cool for a couple of minutes.
  2. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces!
