Ingredients
Scale
For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of your favorite bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, or rye)
- 2 tablespoons butter (or margarine, if you prefer)
- 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or a mix of your favorites)
Instructions
Prepare the Sandwiches
- Butter the Bread: Start by buttering one side of each slice of bread. Be generous – you want that golden crust! Spread it evenly from edge to edge.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Place one slice of cheese on the unbuttered side of each slice of bread. Layer two slices of cheese on each slice of bread for maximum cheesiness.
- Put It Together: Close the sandwich, making sure the buttered sides are facing outwards.
Grill the Sandwich
- Heat the Pan: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. If you have a griddle, that’s even better for making multiple sandwiches at once!
- Grill the First Side: Place the sandwich in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes, pressing down gently with a spatula to ensure even grilling. Check the bottom by lifting it up slightly – it should be golden brown.
- Flip the Sandwich: Once the first side is crispy and golden, flip the sandwich over carefully and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
- Check for Melting: You’ll know your grilled cheese is done when the cheese is fully melted and the bread is perfectly toasted on both sides.
