Ingredients
Scale
For the Haluski:
- 1 small head of cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (or butter for extra richness)
- 12 oz egg noodles (or any pasta you prefer)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter (for finishing)
- Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Cook the Noodles
- Boil the Noodles: In a large pot of salted water, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
Cook the Cabbage and Onions
- Prepare the Cabbage: While the noodles cook, heat olive oil (or butter) in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the Cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to combine with the onions and garlic. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften and turn golden brown. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine the Noodles and Cabbage
- Toss the Noodles and Cabbage Together: Once the cabbage is tender and caramelized, add the cooked noodles to the skillet. Stir everything together, allowing the flavors to meld. Add the butter at this point for an extra boost of richness.
- Season to Taste: Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
Serve and Garnish
- Plate the Haluski: Serve the Haluski warm, garnished with fresh herbs if desired for a burst of color and freshness.
- Enjoy: Dig in and savor the flavors of this comforting, soul-warming dish.
