Mango Pineapple Salsa

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup pineapple, diced (fresh or from the can)
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 12 jalapeño peppers, finely chopped (adjust based on spice preference)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: A pinch of black pepper or chili powder for an extra kick

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  1. Dice the Mango and Pineapple: Begin by peeling and dicing the ripe mango into small cubes. Be sure to remove the pit! Next, dice the pineapple into similar-sized chunks, making sure the pieces are small enough for easy scooping.
  2. Chop the Onion and Jalapeño: Finely chop the red onion and jalapeño. If you prefer less heat, remove the seeds from the jalapeño before chopping.
  3. Chop the Cilantro: Using a sharp knife, finely chop the cilantro. The fresher, the better—cilantro adds a bright, herbal flavor that pairs wonderfully with the sweetness of the fruit.
  4. Juice the Lime: Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice over the diced mango and pineapple. The acidity from the lime will bring everything together and balance the flavors.

Combine the Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, add the diced mango, pineapple, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro.
  2. Gently stir everything together, being careful not to mash the mango or pineapple too much. You want the chunks to stay intact for a satisfying bite.
  3. Season with salt to taste. If you want to add an extra kick, this is the point where you can add a pinch of black pepper or chili powder.

Chill and Serve

  1. Chill: While it’s not necessary, letting the salsa sit for about 15-30 minutes in the fridge allows the flavors to meld together. However, if you’re in a rush, you can serve it immediately!
  2. Serve: Scoop the salsa into a bowl, and serve with tortilla chips, tacos, grilled meats, or as a topping for salads. It’s incredibly versatile, so feel free to get creative!
