Roasted Pears

  • Author: Martha
  • Total Time: 40 min.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Roasted Pears:

  • 4 ripe pears (Bosc or Bartlett are great choices)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For Optional Toppings:

  • Crushed walnuts or pecans
  • A dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
  • A drizzle of caramel sauce or maple syrup
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Pears

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the Pears: Slice the pears in half lengthwise, removing the cores with a spoon or melon baller. If you prefer, you can leave the skin on for a rustic feel, or peel them if you prefer a smoother texture.
  3. Arrange the Pears: Place the pear halves, cut side up, on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Season the Pears

  1. Drizzle the Honey: Drizzle honey over each pear half. This will help caramelize them and give them a natural sweetness.
  2. Add Olive Oil: Pour a small amount of olive oil over the pears, ensuring they’re lightly coated to help them roast perfectly.
  3. Sprinkle Cinnamon: Sprinkle the cinnamon evenly over the pears, adding that warm, spicy flavor that pairs so well with the fruit.
  4. Vanilla and Salt: Add a touch of vanilla extract for extra depth and a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.

Roast the Pears

  1. Roast: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the pears for about 25-30 minutes, or until they are soft and the edges start to caramelize. You can check doneness by poking them gently with a fork; they should be tender but still hold their shape.
  2. Optional Step: For extra caramelization, you can broil the pears for 1-2 minutes at the end of the roasting time, but be careful not to burn them!

Serve and Enjoy

  1. Serve Warm: Once roasted, remove the pears from the oven and serve them warm. You can enjoy them as-is, or top with your favorite add-ins.
  2. Add Toppings: For an extra indulgent touch, serve with whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce. Garnish with chopped nuts or fresh mint for a little crunch and color.
